Auto industry’s gem : How the turbocharger was born

In 1885, at the dawn of the automobile, Karl Benz, the inventor of the first automobile, and Rudolf Diesel, the inventor of the diesel engine, were already using pre-compressed air to boost engine power. However, perhaps due to the sheer volume of their inventions, their research attracted little attention. It wasn't until 1905 that Swiss engineer Alfred Büchi perfected their work, inventing and patenting an exhaust-gas-driven supercharging system – How the turbocharger was born. However, this advanced technology had yet to be applied to automobiles.
